College Community School District selected Hall & Hall Engineers (HHE) to provide master planning and design services for the development of a sports complex on a 45-acre parcel south of their main campus.
HHE worked closely with the steering committee to identify project goals and objectives and then collaborated with user groups and school officials to gather vital information about long-term visions for the area. This provided a solid foundation for the design team during master plan development.
HHE faced and resolved several site challenges. A “soft hands” approach was used to weave the ballfields into the original landscape. The moderate site terrain required the fields to be terraced to reduce grading and improve the site efficiency.
HHE worked closely with school officials throughout the process, always considering the project budget as design decisions were made. The design team anticipated a construction cost of $2.9M, falling in between the low and high bidder. The extra attention given to the project budget allowed school officials to accept some bid alternate upgrades and still meet the overall budget.
