Hall & Hall Engineers, Inc. began in 1953 with a one-room office in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Today, Hall & Hall provides Municipal Civil Engineering, Land Development Civil Engineering, Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Landscape Architecture, and Land Surveying services for projects of all sizes for municipalities, utilities, roads, schools, businesses and industries across the Midwest.

HHE proudly celebrated 70 years of business in June of 2023 and continue the commitment to provide quality land development services for another 70 years.

Shane Wicks, President said, “we value our clients that helped us build our firm from two employees to [20] employees today.” He said, “a shift was made in 2013 to go to make all employees eligible to purchase shares of Hall & Hall stock.

Transportation Engineer

We are currently looking to add a Transportation Engineer with Traffic Engineering Experience to our Public / Municipal Team.   The ideal candidate will have the following qualities:

· 8+ years’ experience working in Transportation Engineering, with Traffic Engineering experience.

· Iowa P.E. license, or the ability to obtain Iowa licensure within 6 months of being hired.

· Good written and verbal communication skills required.

· Experience working directly with Clients.

· Experience Preparing Traffic Impact Studies / Reports.

· Experience with CAD Civil 3D design software and working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook (Word & Excel) is preferred.

· Experience working on Municipal Projects and with Municipal Clients is preferred.

· Experience with designing Roundabouts is preferred.

· Experience with designing Traffic Signals is preferred.

 

Essential Duties Include:

· Plan, organize and lead the daily engineering design activities in the accomplishment of client project tasks.  Identify and manage project priorities to meet client, team, and company goals.

· Function as a contact point for the client concerning the engineering aspects of their project.  Facilitate good communications among the client, all HHE departments, team groups and applicable governing bodies.

· Attend and participate in initial meetings regarding new project proposals as well as new project kickoffs to ensure a clear understanding of the complete project in order to be able to effectively contribute to the preparation of proposals and facilitate the proper completion of assigned tasks.

· Review and approve the technical approach to project tasks; and, intermediate and finished work product to ensure that they meet objectives of client while adhering to local, state, and federal laws.  Also, assure compliance with company quality assurance/control standards.  Review the research and data necessary for the design of the project, such as zoning conditions, latest design standards, existing utility information, environmental issues, topographic surveys, etc.

· Coordinate with applicable government agencies and attend meetings as appropriate to ensure that client projects comply with agency regulations and are approved by them.

· Design and prepare plan of improvements & construction documents, facilitate bidding and construction administration.

Professional Land Surveyor

Typical Duties Include:
  • Property Research
  • Boundary calculations
  • Acquisition plats and easement exhibits
  • Preliminary and final plats
  • Preparing legal descriptions
  • Retracement plats-of-survey, ALTA surveys and other surveying documents
  • Review work prepared by Design Surveyors and Field Surveyors
  • Survey related project proposals
  • Other duties as assigned
Essential Duties Include:
  • Prepare land surveying calculations and documents using governing codes and standards of practice.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates own work as well as work of Field and Design Surveyors
  • Research land surveying records and document findings
  • Serve as project manager and client contact for land survey projects
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, civil, etc.
  • Handle routine consulting contract administration
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to prepare survey and mapping drawings
  • Participate in client and company meetings
  • Operate survey equipment to perform boundary and construction surveys
Experience:
  • Professional Land Surveyor licensed in the State of Iowa
  • At least four years of land surveying or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Skill sand Special Requirements:
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D required
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Suite is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge in the operation of robotic total stations and GPS is preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the Iowa Code regarding land surveying is required
